PETOSKEY STONE
This interesting stone is a variety of Calcite. It was
formed by the fossilization of ancient coral. The coral
lived in the shallow waters some 350 million years ago.
Petoskey Stones are only found on the northern
beaches of Lake Michigan and Lake Huron
LAKE SUPERIOR  AGATE
Lake Superior Agates are the oldest on Earth. They
formed in the late Precambrian period almost 1.2
billion years ago. Only one in every 10,000 specimens
are considered good for jewelry making. Said to
enhance creativity, agates have special properties.
LAKE SUPERIOR BEACH STONE
These opaque stones were found on the beaches of
Lake Superior. They were formed from volcanic lava
that quickly cooled when it reached the surface. Some
of them contain tiny crystals, Jasper, Iron with a mix of
Silica and other colorful minerals.
KONO DOLOMITE
Named after the Kono Hills south of Marquette County
Michigan. Kono Dolomite is an ancient rock in which
formations of fossil stromatolite algae occur. The stone
is between 2.1 and 2.2 billion years old. These
stromatolite formations are some of the first life on earth.
LARIMAR
Twenty times rarer than Tanzanite it is one of the world's
rarest gemstones. Found in only one location in a
mountainous, relatively inaccessible region of
the Dominican Republic, overlooking the Caribbean
Sea. This stone is also called the Atlantis Stone, since a
wise prophet once clamed this region was part of the
lost continent of Atlantis.
WATERMELON TOURMALINE
For centuries, Tourmaline has adorned the jewels of
Royalty. It is a very rare and complex occurrence in nature.
The pink tourmaline is said to inspire love, creativity and
willpower. The green tourmaline is said to give success,
prosperity and peaceful sleep.
Almost every color can be found in Brazil. An Egyptian
legend gives it the name , The Gemstone of the rainbow.
BRYOZOA
Out of over 4,000 or more species of Bryozoa, only 21
have been reported in the Great Lakes. Back when
Michigan was closer to the equator, under water and
very tropical, they grew in colonies in the warm waters of
northern Michigan. Fossilized Bryozoa considered to be
a marine animal is very hard to find on the shores of
Lake Michigan and Lake Huron.
MICHIGAN GREEN STONE
This extremely rare Semi-Precious Gemstone of this
quality is found only in "Isle Royale" of the
Keweenaw Peninsula of Michigan.
It is also called the Turtle Back Stone. It is from the
earths largest and thickest lava flows of the upper
peninsula. Extremely hard to find and in demand by
collectors world wide, this stone is truly a gift
of nature.
FAVOSITE CORAL
Favosite is the cousin to the Petoskey Stone of Northern
Michigan. It is a coral composed of marine animals which
are polygonal to slightly rounded in shape. When
Michigan was closer to the equator, they grew in the
shallow tropical waters some 350 million years ago.
The closely adjoined colonies give the formation a
honeycomb-like appearance and are very hard to find.
